Come make a mess with us! We will be tie-dying shirts, playing in dirt, blowing bubbles, painting, playing with chalk, and shaving cream! It's sure to be a good time! Be sure to bring a white T-shirt for your child to tie-dye!

**MOMS--you will want to bring a change of clothes for the ride home for your little ones! They will get wet and messy!

Invite a friend to come with you! All summer activities are open to any mom with kids! This is a great opportunity to show your friends how much fun we are!

Spring Brunch

Our Spring Brunch is always a wonderful celebration! It will conclude another fun and successful season of MOPS. The morning will also give us a chance to say goodbye and celebrate our graduating moms, Amy B., Denise E., Deanna H., & Amy T.

Here's what you need to know:

* Bring a FOOD DISH to share, and a serving spoon with your name on it, please! (As always, if you are unable to bring food, we want YOU there more than your food!!)

* MOPPETS caregiver appreciation! The teachers LOVE to receive pictures or cards made and hand delivered by your children!

* Book cart items need to be returned and marked off the check out list. If there is a book you would like to borrow for the summer, this can be arranged; simply let Tammy know.

* Register for MOPS of Park Chapel for 2010-2011! Early registration price is $21.95 until May 21, and $23.95 after that. In order to reserve your spot for next year, we must have both completed registration forms and your check payable to Park Chapel MOPS.

BIRTHDAY BAGS

This is such a neat way for moms & Moppets to give to the community! Next meeting, March 2nd, we will be assembling the bags to donate to the Hancock County Food Pantry. Feel free to bring as much as you can or if you don't have any of this stuff on hand please don't fret, WE STILL WANT YOU TO COME TO MOPS without it! What to bring if you are able:

Cake mixes
icing
Cake toppers
leftover, unused plates, napkins, party hats & favors (YES, we want those three Bob the Builder napkins or two leftover princess plates. We will combine to make sure there is enough in each bag)
new plates, napkins, etc. (Dollar stores are great places to find some of these)
Gift Bags
Any other party supply like candles, streamers, party hats, etc.

You can also bring a completed bag. Maybe you can shop with your kids, as a family service project, and get everything you need for a child's birthday. What a neat opportunity to talk with your older preschoolers about giving. A complete bag would at minimum have a cake mix & icing. It could also have 8 plates, napkins, party favors, etc. Theme bags are of course fun (Colts, all pink, Thomas the Train, Princess, etc.).

We are also using the time to collect small toys that the pantry can pass out to little ones who may be fussy while their parents shop. Opened or unopened fast food kids' toys are perfect.

Q: WHAT IN THE WORLD IS A HOME ACCESSORIES SWAP?

A: So glad you asked! It's a chance for you to bring gently used home accessories, and "swap" them for something "new to you!"

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS:
-- Bring CLEAN, GENTLY USED home accessories with you the evening of the swap. (They should be items that you could give as a gift, not a “garage sale” type of item.) Please bring at least one item, but feel free to bring more. The more you bring, the better the selection will be for others. If something you bring does not get selected, you may either take it back home with you or leave it to be donated to the WEARhouse thrift store.

-- Some EXAMPLE ITEMS: candles holders, frames, framed pictures, mirrors, serving dishes, decorative pillows, throws, baskets, vases, lamps, décor for a child’s room… pretty much anything you might find in the home section of a store.

-- AS YOU ARRIVE on the 17th, we will display all of the items on tables. We will draw numbers to determine the order in which we will get to select the accessories. For example, if there are 20 of us, we will select one item at a time, numbers 1-20, then go backwards 20-1. (This way, the person that draws number 20 will get to select two items in a row.)

-- There is no simple way to keep track of the value of what you bring compared to the value of the items you will get to take home. We ask that you come with the mindset that you are happy to have cleaned out your house, and you will be happy to leave with something new... regardless of the original value of the item(s) you bring. We really just want this to be a lot of fun! Hope you can join us!

Christmas Brunch Reminders

1. We want YOU to be there! We are looking forward to a wonderful morning with each of you. If you can't make a food dish, forget your auction item or run late DO NOT let that stop you from coming!

2. Everyone brings food, YUM! We meet in the Worship Center which is off the gathering place where the computers are for checking in and getting your name sticker. Seating is open so feel free to come in and sit wherever!

3. Silent Auction. Bring those awesome auction items to donate. You may drop them off Tuesday morning if that helps. Don't forget your checkbook/cash in case you want to buy something:) Questions, don't hesitate to ask your DGF. All proceeds help us take the caregivers out for a nice meal at the end of the year.

4. If you can help your little ones make a Christmas Card for their teacher & helpers at MOPS that would be awesome. Nursery, 1's, & 4's have six caregivers in the classroom, 2's & 3 1/2's have five, 3's have four & the 5 and up class has three.

5. For those of you who have little ones 3 & up, you maybe have heard them humming a new tune. They will be performing for us during the morning. Carrie Taylor takes care of everything and all you have to do is take them to their class as normal.

The play equipment is great for preschoolers, it is the equipment moved from behind the post office. Plus, there are not usually ducks! Feel free to bring a friend! If you have not registered for the 2010-2011 MOPS season, you must do so by July 31 in order to keep your spot! After that date, your MOPPETS space will not be guaranteed and if you need childcare, you will need to request to join the waiting list. If you have turned forms in but have NOT paid then you are NOT registered unless you specifically contacted the finance team about a scholarship. Confidential scholarships are always available but do not carry over each year. Just be sure to let Kristy S. know before the July 31 deadline if you need a scholarship.

HOW TO REGISTER:

Download the registration form (on the right-hand side of this blog) and return it by July 31 along with your check for $23.95 payable to MOPS. You may deliver or mail to Kristy S. If you can't remember if you've registered or not, we are happy to verify that for you. If you are unable to return to MOPS in the fall, please responding accordingly to help us with our planning. Remember, Mom's Night Outs and playdates are always open to you even if you cannot return due to your schedule. Hope to see you all again this coming season! MOPS Family Outing to Victory Field

This Sunday, June 25th

Indianapolis Indians at Victory Field vs. Charlotte Knights

Game starts at 2 pm

Tickets are $9 at the door for adults & $8 for kids 14 & under

Bring the whole family for a fun afternoon. Marla is aiming to be there at 1:15, and will be in the left field lawn area. Just look for her when you get there or call her cell. You will want to get downtown early to park and get to the stadium for your FREE Indians Jersey Pillow (first 2500 fans)! Check out the "Knot Hole Club" online at www.indyindians.com for the kids.

We can have coolers on the lawn! Here is the info off their website:

Fans are welcome to bring blankets and coolers into the Ivy Tech Community College Lawn Seating Area (see Coolers & Containers). Chairs, sun umbrellas, carts and balloons are not permitted and will need to be returned to the owner's vehicle. Fans are not to loiter around or enter the "batter's eye" (pine tree area) as it may interfere with the play on the field.

Coolers and other carry-in containers are permitted in the lawn area only and must be less than 18" in length. Coolers larger than 18" will NOT be permitted and must be returned to the owner's vehicle. Fans with coolers must enter through the designated Cooler Check Gates in center field or right-center field.

Alcohol is sold at the stadium but we are asking that this please be a fun, alcohol-free afternoon for all the MOPS families. Thank you!

During our creative activities time at our February 3rd meeting we are going to assemble boxes for our service men and women that are currently deployed. Amy Yang’s (fellow MOPS mom) husband and the 5 men that are with him are our priority and if we can do more we will support those of Park Chapel that are also deployed. If anyone else in our group has immediate family currently deployed we would love to add them to our list!!

Boxes from USPS will be supplied and we are asking for all moms to bring as many items that they can to our Feb.3 meeting. We will pack as much in each box as we can, as it is a flat rate mailing fee no matter what the weight of the box. If you would like to donate for shipping just let us know!

Possible Items:
Inspirational letters or cards of well wishes,
baby wipes (soft packages for packing),

Yummy Stuff :
CHOCOLATE, candy, gum, mints
(this helps to pass the time on LONG all-night patrols,
individually wrapped candies are great!!) , salty snacks (individually wrapped crackers, reg. flavored Pringles,
flavored beef jerky other than original, etc.),
powered pre-sweetened drink mixes (like the tubes of
Crystal Lite and Power—type drinks to be added to their BORING bad tasting water)

Happy New Year 2010!!

It was GREAT to see you all at the last meeting, and we missed those of you that were not able to be there! We had a wonderful time of keeping comfy in our pjs, relaxing, and learning new tips to "renew" each day! Thank you all for a great Christmas Brunch. I hope it was a morning filled with conversation, good food, encouragement, and fun. From all of Steering we wish you a,
"MERRY CHRISTMAS!"

Thank you for bringing items for the silent auction and for bidding! We were able to raise $637, wow. When we think of the caregivers loving on our kids for two and a half hours we are just so grateful. Thank you for helping us thank them by being able to take them out to dinner.

Don't forget at the January 6th meeting you can wear your pajamas and come and enjoy a morning of renewing, education, and creating. "Beam Me Up, Scotty!" No makeup needed! Kiddos need to wear their regular clothes, no PJs. Remember, keep it "G" rated. We are looking for flannel, warm, and fuzzy!

Organizing Your "Space"

Fun meeting today, we definitely have some competitors in the group! Congrats to Marla and her discussion group for coming away with the win this year for the scavenger hunt.

Organizing and preschoolers don't seem to fit well in the same sentence. If we would have had another skit today I would picture the woman with no children organizing for fun. And then, after she organized no little hands or fingers would undo any of her work! The woman on Planet Mom I would picture having to overcome the "time" barrier including lack of sleep and taking the time to organize and maintain. Plus there is the "stuff" barrier, preschoolers bring so many toys and clothes and "stuff". Items that I don't remember having to contain when I didn't have kids. So, since many of us will be attempting to organize or attempting to re-organize some of our "spaces", do you have a tip that has helped you as a mother of a preschooler organize or stay organized? If you are new to MOPS this year, you are in for a treat! (Well, we're ALL in for a treat, but new moms may not know it yet!) The Spring Brunch is such a fun meeting... a chance to celebrate the year, share memories and experiences, honor "graduating" moms, and eat at tables!!!

Reminders:

- Everyone brings food!
- Instead of meeting in Room 200, we will meet in the sanctuary. (It's between the kids' classrooms and our regular room, so you won't miss it!)
- Secret Moms will be revealed! If you participated in this, you may want to bring something for the mom you are surprising and the one who has been surprising you all year!

Thanks so much to Danny for speaking to us! He talked about the importance of the relationships we have as mothers of preschoolers: UP relationships (mentors in our lives), SIDE-BY-SIDE relationships (women who are in the same place we are), and DOWN relationships (people that are not as far along as us). He pointed out the importance of having a mixture of all three kinds of relationships in order to be the women that God wants us to be.

Isn't it wonderful that MOPS allows us to have all 3 kinds of relationships, helping us to become the women and mothers God wants us to be?!

CALLING the New Babies of MOPS '08 - '09!!!!

We will be taking a picture of all of the new babies together wearing their "Adventure" onsies that the MOPS Care Team gave out! This will be so cute!!

9 a.m. (arrive a bit early, if possible) in the Gathering Place (just inside the doors by the children's classrooms)

(We know those babies pack on the pounds quickly! If your baby has outgrown his/her onesie, maybe you can try wearing it without snapping it? Hopefully it will work long enough for the picture! If not, or if your's is buried too deep in the attic, don't worry about it! What we really want to see are those cute little faces!)

Summer Study Update!

There will be a sign-up sheet at the next two meetings for our summer book study, That's My Son. This is a great book that deals with mothering boys. It also gives practical advice for relationships. The cost of the book is $10. I have books that you can purchase at our first meeting. There is no need to read before our first meeting... but if you are really eager to read, let me know! Fire Department Tour Info!

MOPS Greenfield Fire Department Tour
Tuesday, April 14th at 10:30 a.m.

Bring your little ones and join us for a guided tour of GFD's downtown fire station. It is located just south of US 40 on SR 9 across from the courthouse on South Street. We will meet shortly before 10:30 in the large parking lot just west of the station and go in as a group.

You will want to bring your cameras! Barring an emergency, you should be able to photograph your child by the firetrucks or maybe even in the driver's seat.

Summer Study to Start May 13th!

Denise Evanoff is so excited to be doing a six week study for moms while MOPS is on summer break. We will be using a book called, That’s My Son, by Rick Johnson. This book is written directly to moms of boys of all ages. So if you have a son, think you’ll ever have a son, or just want to know more about boys, you are invited to join us. We will be meeting Wednesday mornings from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at Park Chapel, and childcare is provided. We will start on May 13th. More details will follow, and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact Denise.

The Fun House!

Congratulations to DENISE for winning the $10 Walmart gift card! I'm sure with 3 growing boys at home, she will put it to good use!

Today's topic -- The Fun House -- was a lot of fun! Thanks to Lee for her ideas and inspiration for fun (and inexpensive) ways to play with our kids! In case you missed it, some of Lee's ideas included:

- Fun with a cardboard box... Make it into an airplane, a doll's bed, a car, or decorate it and use it for storing dress-up clothes!

- Make a paper weight... Find a big, heavy rock, and glue pieces of different colored tissue paper to it to make it colorful!

- Make a poster, collage, or paper dolls... Have kids find pictures in catalogs and magazines, cut them out and glue them on. Great way to practice cutting and gluing skills!

- Fun with food... Turn food into fun by making an orange slice into a sailboat by adding a toothpick with a paper sail! Have kids "help" you cook... you might be surprised when they actually eat what they make!

She had LOTS more great ideas to share! Add a comment with another one of Lee's ideas that you liked, or share some of your own fun things you do with your kids!

What a great meeting today! Stress and depression are not easy topics, but important ones to discuss and learn more about. One of the questions from discussion group today was:

Directions from the Courthouse:
Drive east on US 40 to 600 East (about 4 1/2 miles).
Turn south (right) and drive 2 1/2 miles. You will pass 100 South and 200 South (which doglegs at 600 East). About 1/2 mile beyond 200 South, you will go over a little creek, then up a rise, passing a row of mailboxes on the left.
At the top of the rise, turn right into the first driveway (not left onto 250 South). We are the second house on the right, down the long lane. You can't see the house from the main road. The house is a ranch, tan on top and light brown brick on the bottom. Lights will be on.
Come on down for a warm evening with girlfriends and fellowship and food!
